The Largest Christmas Ever's Evidences!
Christmas is the biggest holiday celebrated in the world. Don't believe me? Here are the proofs!
Christmas In Australia
In Australia, the heat of the summer time really has a heavy impact on the way that the Australians actually celebrate Christmas and also depends on which Northern hemisphere Christmas traditions are chosen to be followed. There are a lot of Australians that choose to celebrate Christmas outdoors. Some go to the beach or campgrounds for an extended stay while they are on Christmas break. For instance, people who live in Sydney or visit there usually go to Bondi Beach where approximately 40,000 people spend Christmas day together, whether they know each other or not.
From the types of Christmas plants and flowers all the way to the types of carols sung, to the types of Christmas stories that are told to the children. They even have their own version of the song 12 days of Christmas.
Christmas In England
Children sing "Christmas Carols" in the streets.
English people eat their famous "Christmas Pudding" at the end of the Christmas Dinner.
Did you know that "Christmas Pudding" is the title of an Agatha Christie Mystery? Hey! I love her! Her most famous hero is... the Belgian Hercule Poirot (I'm Belgian ;-)))
In England, Santa Claus fills the English children socks with gifts.
British people also exchange greeting cards; which are a British creation.
I love England and I dream of being able to celebrate Christmas in England.

Christmas Time In The USA
How do the United States celebrate Christmas?
On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Santa Claus is coming to announce the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.
Americans love to celebrate Christmas and set up a decorated Christmas in their home, moms keep their children occupied with crafts, bakery and many more activities.
Children hang empty stocks on the fireplace and on the Christmas morning they find them filled with candy and small toys.
Christmas In France
Streets and the houses are decorated several weeks before Christmas.
There are a lot of French Christmas customs:
- The well known Christmas Markets and Villages,
- The Christmas tree decorating,
- Family Christmas Dinner: France is famous for its cooking, Christmas meals are up to the country's reputation.
- Santa Claus who is named "Père Noël" or "Papa Noël" even sometimes "Petit Papa Noël",
- Christmas gifts; which consist on toys for children,
- And much more. The French Overseas Departments (they're called "Departements Outre-Mer) also celebrate Christmas even if there is no snow in their countries.
Christmas In Italy
In Italy, Christmas lasts three days, from December 24th till 26th.Christmas traditions vary from one region to another one and, depending on the region it is Babo Natale (Father Christmas) or the "Gesu Bambino" (Little Jesus) who brings gifts on December 25th.
The Italian Christmas dessert is the famous "Panettone".
Christmas In Spain
Christmas in Spain works a little differently than others :)In Spain, Santa Claus is less important than Magi.
Magi distribute gifts to children on January 6th.
But for Christmas, Spanish people decorate the streets with lights. The windows of the shops are filled with lots of gifts and Spanish celebrate the Christmas Evening with their family.
As usual, a Spanish feast is always the opportunity to eat a lot of Spanish specialities and drink one of the most famous wine in the world: Spanish wine (I personally love the "Sangre de Toro" wine).
Christmas Symbols
The Advent:It consists of a burning candle four Sundays before Christmas; which symbolize the rebirth of light after the winter solstice.
The December 24th Christmas Mass:
This Mass celebrates the birth of Jesus.
The Christmas Crib:
It symbolizes the birth of Jesus in Christian homes.
The Christmas tree:
A symbol from the pagan celebration and representing life.
The Yule log:
Represents the log that we put in the fireplace to warm up on Christmas Eve.
Santa Claus:
An American creation, inspired by the Christian Saint Nicholas.
By the way, Saint Nicholas, the Great Patron of Schoolboys, is Santa Claus' most serious competitor;-)
Christmas In Belgium
We have a festival especially dedicated to children; which is Saint Nicholas (Sinter Klaas), The Great Patron of Schoolboys, on December 6th.
One week before December 6th, each night, Saint Nicholas brings sweets sweets in the slippers of good children (traditional version) or One month before December 6th he does the same thing (commercial version).
On December 5th Eve, parents and children dress the dining room table with a plate full of cookies and a glass of milk for Saint Nicholas, a carrot for his ass.
On December 6th, early in the morning, the glass is empty, the carrot is eaten, and there are only crumbs of biscuits.
The table is now lined with dozens of toys, sweets, marzipan, chocolate...
Saint Nicholas has a companion: Père Fouettard (Zwarte Piet or Black Pete) who punishes wicked children.
We decorate our houses, we have a family Christmas Eve but Christmas gifts are reserved to the adults ;-)
Ok, kids generally receive clothes and books at Christmas.
Christmas Traditions From Around The World
Christmas In Portugal
Christmas Eve is a holiday. The Portuguese attend the Christmas Midnight Mass; which is called : "Missa Do Galo".
If there is no Christmas tree in Portugal, there is nevertheless a "Wooden Christmas".
Christmas In The Netherlands
The Netherlands also celebrate Saint Nicholas who is called "Sinterklaas".
The old bearded man is travelling by boat and is accompanied by many black aids.
They distribute gifts to good children.
Traditions are evolving and the Dutch people reserve the big gifts for Christmas Time because they profit from the bargain sales after Sinter Klaas.
Christmas Recipes From Around The World
Christmas In Scandinavian Countries
Christmas In The Other European Countries

In Romania, on December 24th, there is a Christmas candle burning until the morning of December 25th.
In Russia, Christmas Day happens on January 7th, according to the Orthodox calendar.
In Greece the Christmas period begins on Christmas Eve and ends at the Epiphany.
Christmas is less important than Easter.

- I loved this. How interesting. I never think about others having summer like weather during the Christmas holiday. I love that gifs are reserved for the adults in Belgium. I will tell my daughter that if she doesn't behave for the holidays we will celebrate as they do in Belgium. :)
